" I'd like to mark this Memorial Day for Israel's fallen by describing how it affected me this year.
It's my first Memorial Day as a soldier. And no matter how much I had wanted to be at the school ceremony, in uniform alongside my friends, the task for which I have stayed here in uniform, has far more significance.
Our last day [in Israel] was spent exploring Ashkelon, at the request of Lyn, who clearly benefited from the Baltimore-Ashkelon partnership as she planned to meet up with her friend Rotem for lunch.
Members of the Jewish Women’s Giving Foundation visit the Family Nest in Ashkelon!
The Baltimore-Ashkelon Partnership Mission returned from Israel on Sunday, January 22. As always, it was wonderful to visit Israel and to spend time with family and friends in our sister city of Ashkelon. We look hope to see everyone soon!
During the Leadership Mission to Baltimore in January 2012, the final allocation meeting was held in the brand new "Susan Blavatt Overseas-Volunteers Room" at the Ashkelon Volunteer Center. The room was donated by the Blavatt family. The room has seating areas, work areas, two computers, a tv, a small library, tables and chairs and will be a comfortable home away from home for overseas volunteers in Ashkelon. See photos below.
At a cocktail party held at Beit HaAm the Leadership Mission met the English Speaking artists and chatted to members of the ESOA committee. See Photos below.

My return visit to Israel and to Jerusalem is especially meaningful because I am sharing it with my husband Jeremy.
Avi Melamed's discussion of Israel's security concerns, while being here and actually seeing the areas in question, deepened my appreciation of all the complexities and dilemmas Israel faces.
Yoram, our guide, took us through the Old City sharing information and insight about the unique significance of Jerusalem, which is shared by Jews, Christians and Muslims. It is important to note that Israel respects and protects access to the sites for all faiths.
It maybe 30 degrees outside but we are getting warmed up for our weeklong mission to Ashkelon. This will be my third mission with The Associated but the first without our 2 boys. We leave in less then 36hrs but still have to get my stuff together. We just got the final (or so we think) itinerary and realized I will need another week off after the fact filled 7 days in Israel.
We look forward to seeing the Baltimore committee next Thursday, January 12 for the Baltimore-Ashkelon Partnership Committee meeting. We will discuss the following PASSWORD PROTECTED proposals that have been submitted to the Partnership and previously vetted by the Funding Subcommittees in Baltimore and in Ashkelon. Please bring proposals with you to the meeting. For password information, please contact Mary Haar at mhaar@associated.org.
